Papers, 1854; 1866-1869; 1930s.

Most of this collection consists of materials and notes gathered by Mrs. Chetwood Smith (1872- ) in preparation for the book she and her husband, Chetwood Smith (1873- ), wrote entitled _Rogers Groups: Thought and Wrought by John Rogers_, (Boston: Charles E. Goodspeed & Co., 1934). There are various lists of Rogers' productions; letters to Mrs. Smith regarding information for the book; 1930s newspaper clippings on the revival of interest in Rogers; letters from Rogers' daughter, Katherine Rebecca Rogers, to Mrs. Smith; a facsimile of Rogers' first catalog; and copies of letters to Rogers, 1866-1869. The only original material is two charming letters by Rogers. The first is a brief letter from Manchester, N.H., January 1854, with drawings; and the second is an illustrated valentine letter, 1854, describing his fictional adventures in a California gold field.
